Orthodontics is a combination of art and science, used to problem-solve for each individual patient's needs and goals. It requires experience and knowledge of the complexity of the growing face, jaws and teeth, with an artist’s vision of what the end result, the smile, and the facial structure will look like. It’s exciting to see a patient’s treatment plan slowly unfold and their teeth and smile fall into place. It’s especially rewarding to see my patients’ enthusiasm on the day their braces come off and they get to see their new, beautiful smiles for the very first time.

My patients are the reason I’ve gone to work every day for the past 24 years and I enjoy the time I get to spend with them. I believe orthodontics can be fun, not just for the younger kids, but for teens and adults as well. My team and I teach and encourage our patients to get as much out of their treatments as possible. We all enjoy creating beautiful smiles that have a lasting effect on our patients' dental health, self-esteem, self-image, and ultimately their future.

I feel a responsibility to keep up-to-date on all aspects of orthodontics so that I can provide to my patients with the best treatment available while keeping any discomfort or inconvenience to them as minimal as possible. I take numerous continuing education courses every year and have done so my entire career to keep abreast of the latest information and techniques in my specialty. My patients benefit from my commitment to continuing education because with the best knowledge, I can provide more efficient and effective evidence-based orthodontics. In general, orthodontic treatment times can be reduced and appointments are less frequent, allowing for fewer interruptions in my patients’ lives.

I am also involved in educating the next generations of orthodontists. As a part-time faculty member, I teach the SPEED clinic in the Graduate Orthodontic Department of the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario.

An important aspect of staying on the cutting-edge of orthodontics is being active in the greater orthodontic and dental communities. This gives me a chance to discuss various topics in my field of expertise with other well trained and educated specialists. I am a member of several professional organizations, including the:

My Team

I am blessed to be able to work with wonderfully competent, talented, and dedicated staff. My team is made up of an amazing group of well-educated professionals with service-oriented work ethics. They are committed to patient care and education and treat our patients the way they would want to be treated. They take time to make sure all questions are answered and keep communication paths open and patients happy with the care they receive.

Outside the Office

I grew up in London and Dorchester, Ontario, and spent my University years in Guelph where I met my wonderful wife, Kathy. Currently, we live just outside of the city of Guelph in the countryside of the Township of Puslinch. Kathy and I have two children who are both in University and a Golden retriever named Emmy who loves the water.

When I am not at work I’m usually at home with my family or at our cottage. My favorite pastimes are sailing, which I enjoy in the summer months, along with working in our gardens at home.In the winter I like taking the dogs for hikes in the fields and forests behind our home. I am a member of the Experimental Aviation Association and enjoy flying airplanes, though less often lately. I also belong to the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Association and briefly raced motocross in my youth.

In the Community

I am passionate about my profession and my practice, but my wife and I support many charities and environmental causes. Having the ability to do so is a privilege while actually doing it is a responsibility to future generations and to the planet. We helped form a province-wide organization instrumental in affecting provincial government policy with regards to the environment in our area. We’ve always believed in the importance to be involved and help when you can.
